Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Trevitt Hendricks ("Kinfolio," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the Kinfolio application, website, and related services (the "Service").
We built Kinfolio to preserve families' most precious memories, and we take the responsibility of handling that information seriously. Please read this policy carefully.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account information: your name and email address when you create an account (including via third-party sign-in such as Google).
- Story content: the responses, memories, and narratives captured during interviews, and the names and details of the people whose stories you record ("Story Subjects").
- Photos: any images you upload for a Story Subject or book.
- Order and shipping information: recipient names, shipping addresses, and contact details you provide when ordering printed books.
- Communications: information you provide when you contact us for support.
Information collected automatically:
- Basic technical and usage data, such as device and browser type, and how you interact with the Service, used to operate and improve the Service.
Payment information:
- We do not collect or store your full payment card details. Payments are processed by our payment processor (Stripe), which handles your card information directly under its own security standards and privacy policy.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
- Conduct AI-assisted interviews and generate written narratives from responses;
- Produce and fulfill digital and printed books;
- Process payments and manage subscriptions;
- Communicate with you about your account, orders, and support requests;
- Enable features you choose to use, such as sharing a chapter;
- Maintain the security and integrity of the Service;
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. AI Processing
To provide the core interview and narrative features, the content of your interviews and responses is transmitted to our AI provider (Anthropic) for processing. This processing generates interview questions and composes narratives. We share only what is necessary to provide these features. We do not use your private story content to train AI models, and our AI provider processes it under its own commercial terms and privacy commitments.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:
- Service providers ("subprocessors"): We share information with trusted third parties who help us operate the Service, including:
- Payment processing (Stripe) — to process payments and subscriptions;
- Print and fulfillment (our print-on-demand provider) — to print and ship books, including the recipient's name and shipping address and the book's content;
- AI processing (Anthropic) — to power interviews and narratives, as described above;
- Hosting and database infrastructure — to store and serve your data securely;
- Authentication (e.g., Google) — if you choose to sign in with a third-party provider.
- Content you choose to share: If you generate a public share link or share card for a chapter, that specific content becomes accessible to anyone with the link until you disable it.
- Legal reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Kinfolio, our users, or others.
- Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.
5. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may delete your content or account at any time. When you delete content or your account, we will delete the associated personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example, records of completed transactions).
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete your information;
- Export a copy of your content;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You can exercise many of these rights directly in the Service (for example, deleting subjects, chapters, or your account, and exporting books as PDFs). For other requests, contact us at kinfoliosupport@gmail.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA respectively. Our legal bases for processing include performing our contract with you, your consent, and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service.
7. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for users 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. While Story Subjects may be of any age (for example, when an adult records a family member's story), the account holder is responsible for the content they submit and for obtaining any necessary consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access controls, encrypted connections, private storage for uploaded photos and generated books, and restricting sensitive operations to secure server-side processes. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Data Transfers
We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than the one in which you reside, including the United States. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection when transferred internationally.
10. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use essential cookies and similar technologies necessary to operate the Service, such as keeping you signed in. We do not use the Service to serve third-party advertising.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
